PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Penn State women’s team competed at the UPenn Hidden Dual against players from Penn, LIU and Temple this weekend, Sept. 8-10.
Alina Lebedeva won six matches throughout the weekend. On day one, Lebedeva, with partner Katerina Dimitrova, defeated a duo from Temple, 6-3. She also bested Temple’s Sena Takebe, 6-2, 6-1.
On day two, Lebedeva had two singles wins against Liza Tkochenko from Penn, 6-4, 6-3, and Leo Boisseau from LIU, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
Lebedeva finished out her weekend with a singles and doubles win. She won her doubles match again, alongside Dimitrova, against a pair from LIU, 6-1. Lebedeva picked up a singles win over Penn’s Eileen Wang, 6-3, 6-3.
Karly Friedland took home three wins from the tournament. On day one, she won a doubles match with partner Katerina Dimitrova against a pair from LIU, 6-2, and a singles win against Temple’s Evie Wei, 6-3, 6-4.
On day two, Friedland and her partner, Jordina Cegarra, won their match, 6-4, against a pair from Penn. Friedland also had a singles win against Penn’s Eileen Wang, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 10-4.
Friedland, on day three, and Cegarra clinched another doubles win, 6-4, against a pair from LIU.
Yvonne Zuffova tallied four wins during the weekend. On day one, Zuffova took a doubles win with her partner, Cegarra, against a pair from LIU, 6-2. She won a singles match over Temple’s Thamara Frasser Kawaratani, 6-4, 6-4.
On day two, Zuffova and Dimitrova clinched a win against a pair from Penn, 6-2. She also took a singles win against Lucy Garrigues of LIU, 6-2, 7-5.
In addition to her three doubles wins, Dimitrova finished her first tournament as a Nittany Lion gaining a singles win. She defeated Penn’s Sasha Motlagh, 7-5, 6-2.
Cegarra also started her career in the blue and white with a singles win against Temple’s Samantha Nanere, 6-4, 6-3, in addition to her three doubles wins.
Daniella Alamo, Deanna Lasorda and Kate Zink all competed in the tournament throughout the weekend.
