WOMEN’S TENNIS CENTRAL - #17 Tennessee vs. #65 Kentucky, #30 Vanderbilt


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 17 Tennessee women’s tennis team is slated to face a pair of ranked programs in this weekend’s tilts at Barksdale Stadium. The Lady Volunteers will host No. 65 Kentucky at 4 p.m. on Friday, before taking on No. 30 Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

This past weekend, Tennessee (15-6, 7-4 SEC) extended its winning streak to four matches, notching victories against No. 34 Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The squad swept past the Rebels in a 4-0 decision before downing the Commodores in a 6-1 affair. Junior Elza Tomase was phenomenal against both opponents, posting two singles triumphs and one doubles victory. She earned her first triumph at the No. 1 singles spot against Mississippi State’s Alexandra Mikhaliuk.

SEC Standings:

The Lady Vols are currently sixth in the SEC, trailing South Carolina by only one match. Last season, the team secured a third-place finish in the final standings, marking their first top-three conference placement since 2013.

Milestone Tracker:

Esther Adeshina notched her 85th career doubles win over the weekend. The 70th-ranked pair of Adeshina and Alana Wolfberg tallied a 6-1 victory against Alessia Taglinete and Chole Cirotte from Mississippi State.

Scouting the Wildcats: 

The Lady Vols lead the all-time series, 30-20, against Kentucky. Twelve of Tennessee’s 30 wins have come at home. The last time the two teams met was almost a year ago in Fayetteville, Ark., when the Big Orange defeated the Wildcats in a 4-0 contest on April 21, 2023. The Wildcats own an 8-12 overall record and a 2-9 conference record thus far in the season.

Scouting the Commodores:
