Mitsui Named to SEC Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee men’s tennis junior Shunsuke Mitsui has been named to the 2024 SEC Community Service Team, as announced by the conference Thursday.

Mitsui has been thriving on and off the court in his third season on Rocky Top, taking on a leadership role for the Vols and making an impact in the Knoxville community.

The junior volunteers his time at the University of Tennessee’s Office of Sustainability, collecting and organizing clothing for UT students, staff and Knoxville residents. He also helps at the Big Orange Pantry, sorting through produce and putting together meals for UT students. Additionally, Mitsui spends time at the Knoxville Montessori School, teaching elementary-aged students the basic skills of tennis.

On the court, Mitsui holds a career 85-22 singles record and has defeated 21 ranked opponents. He boasts a 23-4 mark in 2024, including a strong 9-2 record in conference play. In doubles action, Mitsui is a perfect 8-0 in SEC matches alongside his partner, Filip Pieczonka, and posts a 19-1 overall record this season.

Mitsui and the sixth-ranked Vols face Kentucky on the road in a top-10 showdown Sunday at Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
