With Dual Matches Approaching, Men's Tennis Wraps at Sherwood

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The UCLA men’s tennis team took part in the rain-interrupted Sherwood Collegiate Club at Sherwood Country Club in its final action before the start of dual-match play.

Alexander Hoogmartens and Aadarsh Tripathi notched wins versus nationally-ranked opponents, as did the doubles team of Hoogmartens and Patrick Zahraj.

The field also featured participants from No. 9 USC and No. 23 Texas A&M.

Tripathi and Jeffrey Fradkin had standout performances on Day 1 of action. Tripathi got the better of No. 44 Pierce Rollins of Texas A&M for his first-career victory against a ranked counterpart. Fradkin teamed with Stefan Leustian to dispatch of Aggies Rahul Dhokia and Matthis Ross before topping Dhokia in three sets, individually. A matchup of No. 83 Hoogmartens and No. 88 Raphael Perot of Texas A&M went the way of the Aggie, but Hoogmartens and Timothy Li came out on top of a meeting with Perot and Kenner Taylor in doubles play.

Hoogmartens’ second shot at a fellow ranked singles player proved favorable, as he prevailed versus No. 43 Trey Hilderbrand of Texas A&M on Day 2. That capped a perfect day for Hoogmartens, who also paired with Patrick Zahraj to take down the 33rd-ranked combination of Hilderbrand and Noah Schachter. Leustian and Li also each improved to 2-0 in doubles play on the event with a decision over Rollins and Ross.

Gianluca Ballotta made his debut on the second day, going 1-1. He handed Dhokia a three-set defeat.

The dual-match portion of the Bruins’ schedule is slated to start Friday, when Hawai’i visits Los Angeles Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m. PT. UCLA hosts Pepperdine Saturday, in a matchup also scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
