Wildcats Sweep Huskies to Stay Perfect at Home


TUCSON, Ariz. – #12 Arizona swept #51 Washington 4-0 at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on Sunday, April 9 in their senior day match and final regular season contest at home. The ‘Cats are 19-4 overall, 5-1 in Pac-12 and 12-0 at LaNelle. 

The Wildcats won the doubles point and three singles matches to clinch against the Huskies. Arizona tandem Jared Horwood and Colton Smith finished first at two doubles, defeating Brett Pearson and Nedim Suko 6-3. The senior and sophomore pair are 6-3 in dual doubles together. The point was clinched by senior captain Jonas Ziverts and Jay Friend at one doubles. The dynamic Wildcat duo bested the #51 doubles pair Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn 6-2 at one doubles. 

It was a swift singles competition with every Wildcat taking their first set. Freshmen ‘Cats Friend and Dominique Rolland picked up the first two singles victories for Arizona. Friend defeated Jim Hendrikx in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 then Rolland won his first set 6-2 before sweeping Pearson 6-0 in the second. #32 Ziverts bested #111 Zharyn at two singles, also winning in straight sets. The Swede defeated the Huskie 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the match for Arizona on his senior day. 

With today’s win, Arizona is the leader in Pac-12 standings as they head into their next match against #25 Utah on Friday, April 14 at 2 p.m. MT.
