Vol Tennis Adds Filip Pieczonka to 2023 Signing Class

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Filip Pieczonka has signed with the Tennessee men’s tennis team and will join the Vols for the 2023-24 campaign, head coach Chris Woodruff announced Saturday.

Pieczonka, from Poznan, Poland, currently holds a career-high 13.67 UTR and his career-best Junior ITF ranking is No. 39. Pieczonka, the former No. 1 Polish Junior, won six doubles titles and one singles title as a Junior, amassing a career-best ATP singles ranking of No. 1,652 and No. 1,527 on the doubles charts.

“Filip is an exceptional player who is going to win a lot of matches for this program and beyond in pro tennis,” associate head coach James McKie said. “He is 6’4″ and left-handed with an extremely explosive game. Filip is a great doubles player and was also a top-40 junior in the world. Filip’s current coach in Poland was my coach growing up, so it’s nice to have that connection and immediate trust.”

Pieczonka has notable victories over Giles Arnaud Bailly (2022 Junior US Open finalist), Pedro Rodenas (2022 Junior Wimbledon Semifinalist), Gerard Campana Lee (currently No. 5 in the world junior rankings) and Philip Sekulic (494ATP).
