Virginia Women's Tennis | Virginia Hosts NCAA First and Second Round Matches

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia women’s tennis team (22-4) opens play at the 2024 NCAA Women’s Tennis Team Championship by hosting the Charlottesville Regional on Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5, at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort.

Admission is free for the matches.

The matches are scheduled to be played outdoors. Please monitor Virginia’s social media accounts for any weather-related changes.

SATURDAY, MAY 4 (WOMEN)
10 a.m.     Princeton vs. Washington

SUNDAY, MAY 5 (WOMEN)
1 p.m.       Second Round Match

MATCH INFORMATION

  • The matches will be covered in the Cracked Racquets Cross Court Cast on their YouTube Channel
  • Individual court streams will also be available on VirginiaSports.com
  • Live scoring will be available for all of the matches
  • The winner of the Charlottesville Regional will face the winner of the Columbus Regional (Ohio State, Toledo, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt)

CAVALIER NOTES

  • Virginia is 12-0 this season at home and has won 20 consecutive home matches going back to last season
  • Virginia is 25-1 at home over the last two seasons
  • Virginia is the No. 5 seed in the tournament, but slipped to No. 6 in this week’s ITA team rankings
  • Grad student Natasha Subhash comes into the tournament riding a five-match win streak in singles and is 8-1 in her last nine completed matches
  • Junior Mélodie Collard (28-9) and senior Sara Ziodato (28-11) are tied for the team lead in singles victories with 28
  • Collard is 18-3 in dual matches and went 10-1 in conference matches
  • Senior Hibah Shaikh is No. 24 in the latest singles rankings and has earned an invitation to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship
  • Collard and Elaine Chervinsky are No. 8 in the ITA Doubles rankings and will be competing in the NCAA Doubles Championship

VIRGINIA & NCAA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

  • Virginia is the No. 5 seed in the championship, their third time being a top-5 seed
  • Virginia is making its 23rd appearance in the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships and sixth-consecutive under head coach Sara O’Leary
  • This is Virginia’s 11th time hosting a regional
  • Virginia has advanced to the Round of 16 eight times, including each of the last three years
  • The Cavaliers have reached the quarterfinals three times, including last season (2014, 2016 and 2023)
