Virginia Women's Tennis | Virginia Heads to Cary for ACC Championship

CARY, N.C. – The No. 4 Virginia women’s tennis team (20-3, 12-1 ACC) is competing at the 2024 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship, being held at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

Virginia earned a double-bye and will begin play on Friday, April 19 at 6 p.m. against either No. 7 Notre Dame.

The semifinals will take place on Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. The championship match is Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m.

MATCH INFORMATION

  • Live scoring will be available for all matches
  • Friday’s quarterfinals and Saturday’s semifinals will have live court streams available for viewing
  • Sunday’s final will be broadcast online on ACCNX through the ESPN app. It is available through participating TV providers that carry ACC Network
  • Tickets for the 2024 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship are on sale now at this link. Admission is free for ACC students with a school ID and children 9 & under. Full tournament passes are $25. Adults are $10 per day and youth 17 and under are $7

VIRGINIA & ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

  • Virginia is the No. 2 seed in the championships, its highest ever seeding (previous best was a No. 3 seed in 2014
  • Virginia is looking for its third ACC title. UVA won back-to-back titles in 2014-15
  • Virginia has made three trips to the finals since 1990 (the present format for the championship) winning the title in 2014 and 2015. UVA was the runner-up in 2022
  • UVA also has two runner-up finishes in previous tournament formats in 1978 and 1989

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Virginia is No. 4 in this week’s ITA team rankings, matching its season-best ranking
  • Virginia is the only school with both its men’s and women’s teams in the top 5 of the team rankings
  • The Cavaliers finished the season at 12-1 in conference play, tying for first place with North Carolina. This is the second time in program history that the team has finished as the regular season co-champion (also did so in 2014)
  • The Cavaliers matched the program record for ACC victories in a season (12, set in 2014) and set the mark for fewest conference losses (1). The 2014 team lost twice, posting a 12-2 mark
  • Virginia has set the program records this season for consecutive wins (10), consecutive ACC wins (9) and best start in conference play (9-0)
  • Virginia has seven victories against top 25 teams. The team’s three losses are against then No. 5 Michigan (twice) and then-No. 6 North Carolina
  • Senior Hibah Shaikh is ranked No. 23 in singles with a 24-9 record (11-4 ACC)
