Virginia Women's Tennis | No. 6 Virginia Begins ACC Play on the Road Friday and Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 6 Virginia women’s tennis team (8-2, 0-0) opens ACC play with two road matches this weekend. The Cavaliers take on No. 21 Notre Dame (8-2, 0-0 ACC) on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3:30 p.m. in Notre Dame, Ind. Virginia closes out the weekend by playing at Louisville (4-3, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 12 p.m.

CAVALIER NOTES

  • Virginia has moved up to a season-best No. 6 ranking. The Cavaliers started the season ranked No. 12 and were ranked No. 11 heading into the ITA Indoor National Team Championships
  • Senior Hibah Shaikh has moved up to No. 20 in the ITA Singles rankings, the highest ranking of her career. Shaikh is 17-5 in singles this season
  • Shaikh and grad student Natasha Subhash moved up to No. 17 in the ITA doubles rankings after being ranked No. 60 two weeks ago. The duo are 8-2 this season with two wins over top-10 opponents
  • Senior Sara Ziodato picked up her 20th win of the season at ITA Indoors. She is 20-5 with an 8-1 record in dual matches
  • Juniors Elaine Chervinsky and Melodie Collard are both 7-1 in dual matches

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS

  • Virginia is 11-1 against Notre Dame and has won the last nine meetings
  • The Fighting Irish’s last win in the series was a 4-0 victory in a tournament on Feb. 27, 2010
  • Virginia is 7-1 against Louisville and has won the last five meetings
  • Neither team has a ranked singles player

ON THE HORIZON

  • Virginia remains on the road next week, playing at Georgia Tech on Friday, March 1 and at Clemson on Sunday, March 3
