CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 8 Virginia men’s tennis team (17-4, 8-0 ACC) plays a pair of matches this weekend in North Carolina, taking on No. 19 Wake Forest (21-8, 5-3 ACC) on Friday, April 7 at 4 p.m. in Winston-Salem, before closing the weekend by taking on No. 22 NC State (12-7, 6-2 ACC) on Sunday, April 9 at noon in Raleigh, N.C.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Cavaliers are coming off a bye week
  • The team remained at No. 8 in the ITA team rankings
  • Chris Rodesch has moved up to No. 14 in the ITA Singles rankings. Iñaki Montes is at No. 23, making UVA the only ACC school with two players in the top 25. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg is No. 39. Ryan Goetz is No. 104
  • von der Schulenburg picked up his 20th singles win of the year at Harvard last weekend. He is 20-6 overall and 15-3 in dial matches, having won his last five
  • Alexander Kiefer is a perfect 8-0 in ACC singles matches
  • Goetz is on an eight-match win streak in singles. Goetz has not dropped a match since being edged by Ohio State’s James Trotter on Feb. 11
  • Rodesch is 9-1 on the top singles court this spring and has won his last four matches
  • Montes has won his last five matches and is 6-1 at No. 2 singles
  • Måns Dahlberg is on a six-match win streak and is 5-0 in ACC matches
  • Montes and Goetz are No. 22 in doubles with a 13-3 record. They are 7-0 in ACC doubles matches

NOTING THE OPPONENTS

  • Wake Forest is coming off a pair of 4-3 losses at Duke and North Carolina last weekend
  • Melios Efstathiou is ranked No. 5 in singles, the second-highest-ranked singles player in the ACC, with a 21-5 overall record and 12-2 mark at No. 1
  • Virginia leads the all-time series 65-25 and has won the last three meetings
  • NC State topped North Carolina last weekend in Chapel Hill, 4-1, before falling 5-2 at Duke
  • The Wolfpack have been ranked as high as No. 19 this season and as low as No. 39, but have returned to the top 25
  • Rafael Iziquierdo is NC State’s highest-ranked player at No. 61. He has an 11-11 record. Luca Staeheli is at No. 70 with a 15-7 mark
