Virginia Men's Tennis | No. 8 Virginia Plays a Pair of Weekend Matches in Boston

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 8 Virginia men’s tennis team (15-4, 7-0 ACC) plays a pair of matches this weekend in the Boston area, taking on Boston College (6-6, 0-4 ACC) on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m. in Weymouth, Mass. The Cavaliers close out the trip by taking on No. 13 Harvard (10-4, 0-0 Ivy) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.

MATCH INFORMATION

  • Friday’s match at BC will not have live video or live stats
  • Sunday’s match at Harvard will not have live stats, but will have a live video stream
  • Cracked Racquets will also broadcast the Harvard match

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Cavaliers returned to the top 10 of the ITA computerized team rankings, coming in at No. 8
  • Chris Rodesch rose to No. 18 in the updated ITA singles rankings. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg is No. 35, and Iñaki Montes is No. 39
  • Rodesch is 8-1 at No. 1 singles this spring and 17-6 overall
  • von der Schulenburg leads the team with 18 singles wins this year, going 13-3 in dual matches
  • von der Schulenburg’s older brother, Henry, plays for Harvard
  • Alexander Kiefer has won his last seven singles matches and is 8-0 at No. 6 this season
  • Måns Dahlberg is 5-0 at No. 5 singles
  • Ryan Goetz comes into the weekend with 99 singles victories in his UVA career> he is on a six-match win streak in singles
  • Goetz and Iñaki Montes are 10-1 in doubles in dual matches
  • The Cavaliers are coming off a 7-0 win against Virginia Tech on Wednesday
  • Virginia has won 33 straight matches in ACC play and 40 straight matches against ACC opponents
  • Virginia has swept each of its last three opponents and five of its seven ACC opponents

NOTING THE OPPONENTS

  • Virginia is 21-0 all-time against Boston College.
  • Of BC’s six wins this season, two are against DIII opponents, two are against DIIs, and one is against a team reclassifying from DII to DI
  • Harvard plays Virginia Tech on Friday night. These will be the fourth and fifth matches against ACC opponents this year for the Crimson. Harvard has wins against Duke and NC State but fell 4-1 against North Carolina in the final of ITA Kickoff Weekend matches in Chapel Hill
  • Friday’s match against the Hokies is the first home match of the Spring for Harvard
  • Henry von der Schulenburg leads the team with a No. 20 ranking. Harry Walker is No. 30 with a 22-10 record
  • Harvard leads the all-time series 8-5. Virginia won last year’s meeting 6-1 in Charlottesville
