COLUMBUS, Ohio  – The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team (5-2) fell 7-0 at No. 1 Ohio State (7-0) on Friday (Feb. 2) at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The Buckeyes won the doubles point and took all six singles matches in straight sets.

Senior Jeffrey von der Schulenburg was playing at the top singles position for the sixth time in his career. He played a pair of close matches against Justin Boulais, but was edged 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Dylan Dietrich lost his first set against Cannon Kingsley in a tiebreaker before dropping the second 6-3.

Virginia was without its top two singles players. Senior Chris Rodesch is competing in a Davis Cup tie in Colombia and senior Iñaki Montes was sidelined with an injury.

Last season, the Buckeyes won both regular season meetings, winning 4-1 in Charlottesville and 4-0 in the ITA Indoors. Virginia won 4-0 in the NCAA Championship match in May.

FROM HEAD COACH ANDRES PEDROSO
“Well, that was a humbling loss for our team. The Buckeyes were a lot better than us today. We will find out a lot about this team over the coming weeks with how we respond to this match. It’s a direct challenge to our coaches and student-athletes. Everyone needs to take a close look in the mirror. Honestly, though, we wouldn’t want it any other way this time of year. The harder, the better.”
