NOTING THE CAVALIERS
- The 2022 NCAA Champions remain 1 in the ITA rankings
- Virginia opened the season with a pair of 7-0 victories on Sunday against UNCW and Richmond
- Virginia has won 25-straight dual matches dating back to last season
- The Cavaliers have four players in the ITA singles rankings: Chris Rodesch (27), Iñaki Montes (37), Jeffrey von der Schulenburg (45) and Bar Botzer (71)
- Ryan Goetz and Chris Rodesch are ranked No. 17 in doubles
- von der Schulenburg picked up a pair of victories last weekend, including a win at on the top court against Richmond
- Rodesch and von der Schulenburg are both 7-3 in singles, including their fall matches
- Ryan Goetz also picked up two wins on Sunday to improve to 6-2 this season
- Two freshmen picked up wins in their collegiate debuts: Mans Dahlberg won in straight sets on court four and Douglas Yaffa won on court six
NOTING LIBERTY
- This is the season opener for Liberty
- The Flames are the two-time defending ASUN Conference champions and were picked to finish first in the league in the 2023 ASUN Men’s Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll
- The Flames return seven players from last year’s championship team, including the program’s all-time singles wins record holder, Josh Wilson. Liberty also welcomes back 2021 ASUN Championship MVP and 2022 ASUN All-Conference second team Rafael Marques Da Silva. Christiaan Worst, Deji Thomas-Smith, Thando Longwe-Smit, Zion Heaven and Goncalo Ferreira are also back for the Flames
- Virginia is 11-0 in the all-time series. The two squads last met in the 2022 season opener with UVA winning 7-0
