NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team has been selected to return to the NCAA regional tournament for the 29th consecutive year it was announced on Monday. In the first round, the No. 29 Commodores will face Wake Forrest at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
With a 12-10 record in dual matches for the season, the Dores have climbed as high as No. 17 in the country in the ITA rankings this spring. Vanderbilt has two nationally-ranked singles players: Celia-Belle Mohr at No. 15 and Bridget Stammel at No. 81. Additionally, Mohr and doubles partner Anessa Lee current are ranked 33rd while Mohr and Holly Staff are ranked 49th as well.
At the SEC Tournament, Mohr and Staff claimed a win over Texas A&M’s then No. 3-ITA ranked duo of Mary Stoiana and Mia Kupres, which helped solidify Mohr being named to the First-Team All-SEC for the second year in a row. Freshman Valeria Ray was named to the SEC All-Freshman team last week after a standout first regular season, picking up 25 victories overall and defeating three ranked opponents.
This will be the fourth straight postseason that the Dores will play in a regional hosted by Ohio State. Vandy has advanced to the second round each of the last three years, highlighted by a victory over the Buckeyes to advance to an NCAA Super Regional in 2022.
Individual invitations to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be announced in a press release on Tuesday by the NCAA.
