EUGENE, Ore. – For his role in Oregon’s opening weekend sweep, senior Quinn Vandecasteele has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week. Playing at No. 1 in both singles and doubles, Vandecasteele led the Ducks to victories over Purdue, Pacific and Seattle.
Vandecasteele picked up his first win of the season on Friday against Purdue’s No. 1 Aleksa Krivokapic, 6-2, 6-3. His doubles match went unfinished after Oregon won courts two and three to clinch the doubles point.
On Sunday, Vandecasteele paired with newcomer Matthew Burton to take down Peter Alam and Justas Trainauskas from Pacific, who were ranked the No. 19 doubles team in the ITA preseason poll. In singles, he defeated Trainauskas 6-4, 6-2.
Vandecasteele and Burton closed the weekend with a 6-3 win over Seattle’s Veselin Kiselkov and Dario Ristovski, leaving Quinn with an unblemished 2-0 record in both doubles and singles to start the season.
Vandecasteele is the first UO player to be recognized as player of the week since his former doubles partner Joshua Charlton earned the distinction on April 20, 2021.
Oregon (3-0) continues their season at the ITA Kickoff in Columbus, Ohio this weekend.
