SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s student-athletes produced a combined average GPA of 3.320 for the 2023-24 academic year, the fourth-highest GPA in department history, just behind last year’s mark of 3.355. The 2024 spring semester GPA of 3.291 ranks in the top 10 all-time, and marks the 36th consecutive semester with a departmental GPA of 3.00 or higher.
“Our students are committed to being the best in everything they do, and we’re incredibly proud of the way they continue to prioritize their academic success while performing at the highest level on the biggest stages of athletics competition,” said Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics. “This was another tremendous year for Utah Athletics, and yet another illustration of the culture of excellence that supports our student-athletes in all facets of their experience at the University of Utah. Thanks to our terrific academic support team, coaches and staff for the role they play in these achievements.”
The women’s cross-country team, which recorded a second consecutive top 15 finish at the NCAA Championships, earned the highest team spring semester GPA of all sports with a 3.819 after having posted the top fall semester GPA (3.861). The men’s side was led by the NCAA runner-up ski team for the eighth consecutive semester, earning a 3.695 after posting a 3.658 GPA in the fall.
Other Spring 2024 Highlights
- 76 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 GPA
- 169 were named to the Dean’s List with a 3.50 or better
- 359 made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, 3.00 or better (74.8%)
Program-Specific Highlights
- Women’s gymnastics—the defending Pac-12 champion and third-place finisher at the NCAA Championships—has earned a team semester GPA of 3.00 or higher for 58 consecutive semesters.
- Men’s skiing, women’s cross-country and women’s volleyball have earned team semester GPAs of 3.0 or higher for 33 consecutive semesters.
In 2023-24, Utah continued a stellar run of athletics achievement that saw eight programs qualify for the NCAA Championships or a bowl game, tying the department record for the third consecutive year.
