Utes Fall 4-0 to UCLA Friday Afternoon

SALT LAKE CITY  – The Utah men’s tennis team took on UCLA in the first of the final two regular season matches of the year and came away with a 4-0 loss. 

UCLA ended up taking the doubles point but the Utes made them work for it. Dylan Applegate and Gianluca Citadini picked up a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot. When court one went to the Bruins the doubles point came down to the No. 2 spot.

Michael Blando and Jayson Blando battled into a tiebreak but ultimately fell 7-6 (3) to give UCLA the doubles point advantage. 

In singles, the Bruins picked up wins on the No. 3 and No. 6 courts to give UCLA a 3-0 advantage. The match was clinched on court No. 4. Applegate pushed each set into extra games but ultimately fell 7-5, 7-5 to give the Bruins the overall victory over the Utes.

Citadini won his first set 7-5 but dropped his second set 6-0 on the No. 5 court. He was up 2-1 in the third set before the match went unfinished.

Geronimo Espin Busleiman battled in a 7-5 loss in the first set and had a 5-4 lead in the second set before the overall match was clinched. 

Bruno Krenn dropped his first set 7-5 but had a strong 6-4 win in the second set. He trailed 1-0 before the match went unfinished. 

UP NEXT

Utah will take on USC in the final regular season match on Sunday, April 21 at 3 p.m. before heading to the Pac-12 Championships April 24-28.
