Utah Takes Down Stanford 4-1

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men faced Stanford in a lively match, defeating the team 4-1. This was the second win Utah has secured against Stanford in program history.

During doubles play, the Utes quickly secured the doubles point ang gain the advantage in the match. On court two, Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman defeated the Stanford tandem 6-3. Soon after, Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula also defeated their competition on court three, finishing 6-4 and securing the point in Utah’s favor. On court one Patrik Trhac and Berk Bugarikj were leading 5-4 but did not finish.

As the match moved into singles play the squad faced some challenges. On court one, Capalbo fell to Stanford’s Arthur Fery 6-3, 6-1 bringing the match to a 1-1 tie. Busleiman downed Samir Banerjee on court two in a 7-5, 7-5 match once more bringing Utah to an advantage. Soon after, Bastias secured the third point after an amazing three-set match where he won 6-2, 3-6, 6-0.

The match clinched on court five as Bugarikj also completed a three-set match against Stanford’s Neel Rajesh, finishing 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. On court six Trhac was leading 5-3 in the third set but did not finish. On court four Caula was tied 3-3- in the third set, but also did not finish.

 

UP NEXT

The squad will finish off the weekend with a match against the California Golden Bears. The first serve will take place at 1 p.m. MT at the Eccles Tennis Center.
