SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men’s tennis team took on Utah State Wednesday evening and downed the Aggies 6-1.
The Utes started things off strong by capturing the doubles point. The seventeenth ranked duo of Berk Bugarikj and Patrik Trhac defeated David Cierny and Bodin Zarkovic with a 6-4 score in the No. 1 spot.
In the No. 2 spot Utah’s Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman battled it out after being tied 4-4 and the Utes powered through to take down Stijn Paardekooper and Nuno Pinheiro with a final score of 6-4. The No. 3 doubles of Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula went unfinished after being tied at 5-5.
In singles action, Trhac was the first to finish and he defeated Pinheiro 6-3,6-2 in the No. 5 spot. Shortly after Utah picked up another win at the No. 3 spot, where Bastias defeated Paardekooper with scores of 6-1, 6-4.
At that point in the match, Utah had a 3-0 lead. Bugarikj clinched the win for Utah in the No. 6 spot as he defeated Javier Ruiz 6-3, 6-4.
The rest of the match played out and Utah State was able to capture the win in the No. 1 spot for the Aggies’ lone point of the match.
Capalbo was the next Ute to pick up a win as he defeated Zarkovic 7-5, 6-1 in the No.2 spot. To conclude the match, Utah’s Caula picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Roko Savin in the No. 4 spot to give the Utes a final score of 6-1 over the Aggies.

The Utes are set to host New Mexico at 10:00 a.m. in the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. Utah’s scheduled match with Montana State has been canceled due to injury related issues with the Bobcats.
