Utah struggles in 4-0 loss to Arizona State

SALT LAKE CITY  – The Utah women’s tennis team faltered Friday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to No. 31 Arizona State. 

Arizona State ended up claiming the doubles point by picking up wins on the No. 2 court and the No. 3 court. Ana Luiza Cruz and Marcela Lopez were tied at 4-4 before their set went unfinished. 

In singles, court No. 1 was the first to finish with the Sun Devils capturing the win. Kat Lyman got an early 4-0 jump in her first set over No. 100 Emilija Tverijonaite but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-3 to give ASU its third point of the match. 

The Sun Devils captured another victory on the No. 3 court to ultimately clinch the match. 

Yuhan Liu was down 3-1 in her first set but battled back to take a 7-5 win. She dropped her second set and was narrowly trailing in the third set before it went unfinished. 

Ana Luiza Cruz dominated her first set picking up a 6-1 win. She dropped her second set 6-3 but the third set remained unfinished. 

Sara Akid also battled into three sets after a slow 6-1 loss in the first set and a powerful 6-4 win in the second set. Akid was up 4-1 win h

UP NEXT

Utah will host No. 42 Arizona before the final match of the season on April 20 against Colorado for Senior Day where both Kat Lyman and Ana Luiza Cruz will be honored.
