SALT LAKE CITY –  University of Utah women’s tennis team is set to kick off the spring slate at home, hosting matches against Montana State and Utah Tech on Friday, with Idaho State slated for Sunday.

FIRST SERVE

The Utah women’s tennis team is set to commence their 2024 spring season this weekend at the Eccles Tennis Center. They will host a series of three matches, beginning with back-to-back games against Montana State and Utah Tech on Friday, Jan. 19. The Utes’ weekend schedule concludes with a match Sunday, Jan. 21 against Idaho State. 


LAST TIME OUT

Utah hosted the ITA Regionals Oct. 18-22 of the 2023 fall season. Marcela Lopez advanced her way to the finals after defeating top-seed Yujia Huang from BYU. Despite falling during the finals against Noesjka Brink from Wyoming, Lopez’s performance secured her a spot in the ITA Fall Nationals. Also in regionals, Kaila Barksdale reached the semifinals in the main draw, defeating opponents from Northern Arizona, Boise State, and Denver, before succumbing to Wyoming’s Brink. Katherine Lyman and Sara Akid also secured wins in the main singles draw, taking down opponents from Colorado State, Northern Arizona, and Montana State.
Emma Kamper triumphed in the singles B draw, securing the title with a final win over Nevada’s Wiem Boubaker. In doubles, the teams of Sara Akid and Ana Cruz and Lopez/Lyman achieved multiple wins, with Akid/Cruz advancing to the quarterfinals after defeating opponents from Northern Arizona and New Mexico.
