SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah women’s tennis team is set to host a doubleheader against Cincinnati and Montana on Feb 4. The Utes will go up against the Bearcats at 11 a.m and the Grizzlies at 4 p.m.

GIVEAWAY

The first 50 fans will receive free pizza and a Utah Tennis pennant. Everyone in attendance will also have a chance to win two tickets to the NBA All-Star Celebrity game. 

LAST TIME OUT

Utah last competed at the ITA Kickoff Jan 27-28. The Utes took on Maryland on the last day of competition. Katya Townsend and Samantha Horwood teamed up in doubles but were defeated, 6-2. Marcela Lopez and Katya Hersh lost to their opponents, 6-3. Anastasia Goncharova and Madison Tattini were leading in their match but it was left unfinished.

In singles, Townsend finished first and lost, 6-2, 6-1. Tattini was defeated, 6-4, 6-2. Lopez clinched Utah’s first point of the day, 7(7)-6(2), 6-1. Following her lead, Horwood also claimed victory, 6-3, 6-3. Goncharova was narrowly defeated in the second set after a tiebreaker, 6-2, 7(7)-6(5). Kaila Barksdale’s match was left unfinished in the third set. 

SCOUTING CINCINNATI

Cincinnati is 1-3 this season. They are currently unranked and do not have any ranked players or doubles teams. Utah played the Bearcats away in the 2022 season. There, the Utes came out on top 4-3. Cincinnati has eight returners including AAC All-Conference honoree sophomore Elizabeth Pendergast.

SCOUTING MONTANA

Montana has won none of their three matches this season. They are currently unranked and do not have any ranked players or doubles teams. The Grizzlies went up against fellow Pac-12 team, Washington State, on Jan 13. They were defeated, 7-0.
