USC’s Eryn Cayetano Selected as ITA National Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award Recipient

Women’s Tennis | June 12, 2023

LOS ANGELES, Calif. –USC women’s tennis senior Eryn Cayetano has been named the 2023 ITA National Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award Recipient, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday morning. The news comes just one week after being named the ITA Southwest Region Sportsmanship Award winner.

Cayetano, a two-time All-American, is known by teammates for her commitment to the USC women’s tennis program and care for others. This season she reached the NCAA doubles semifinals alongside partner Maddy Sieg.

On the court, Cayetano has been one of the top players in all of college tennis during her career at USC. She was the ITA Fall National Champion in 2022, and ranked No. 1 in singles at end of fall 2022. She has been named both a Singles and Doubles ITA All-American over her career and has played in the top three of the USC lineup her whole career. As a teammate, Cayetano is the leader in drive, work ethic, and sportsmanship. She has the highest character and treats all her opponents, her teammates, coaches, and support staff with respect. She notices when someone is having a hard day and brings them a coffee, writes them a note, or simply offers her time. She’s constantly doing small things to lift up those around her and show care and these are so appreciated by everyone in her circle.

The ITA Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship goes to a Division I women’s player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team’s performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. The honor dates back to 1997 and is in memory of the late and widely admired Penn women’s tennis coach Cissie Leary.

This year marks the second straight season Cayetano has received the prestigious regional honor, as she was also selected for the award in 2022.
