No. 6 seed USC women’s tennis is headed to the Pac-12 Championship final after recording a 4-2 victory over No. 2 seed Cal on Friday afternoon at Weil Tennis Academy. For the first time in program history the Trojans will play for a Pac-12 Championship title, having never previously reached the final.

The Trojans scored early in the match with victories on courts two and three to lock in the doubles point. On court two, No. 42 Snow Han and Naomi Cheong defeated Valentina Ivanov and Haley Giavara 6-2, while Maddy Sieg and Grace Piper took down No. 12 Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm 6-4 on court one.

Piper continued to put points on the board for the Trojans, defeating Berta Passola Folch 6-4, 6-1 on court five to grab the first singles points. Cal evened the score as Alsola defeated Han 6-1, 6-2 on court two and Hannah Viller Moeller bested Sloane Morra 6-1, 6-1 on court six. Emma brought the Trojans within one point of winning with her victory 6-3, 6-3 over Wiersholm on court three, Cheong, in true Fight On fashion, battled back from a first set loss to punch the Trojans’ ticket to the final with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory over Ivanov on court four.

With their win, USC advances to the Pac-12 Championship final where they will face No. 1 seed Stanford, who they narrowly fell to back in the regular season. The match will begin at 3 p.m. at Libbey Park.
