LOS ANGELES- USC men’s tennis (5-9) faces No. 6 Arizona (14-2) in its first conference dual at 4 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 22, at the Mark Tennis Center. USC will be back at home on Sunday, Mar. 24 at 1 p.m. for another conference dual facing off against No. 20 Arizona State (12-6).
RANKINGS
The Trojans enter this weekend as the No. 47th ranked team in the country (ITA Rankings, Mar. 19). USC currently hosts three-ranked individuals (Mar. 19). Junior Peter Makk is the highest-ranking individual, ranked #73. Sitting behind him is #106 freshman Volodomyr Iakubenko followed by senior Lodewijk Weststrate coming in a #122.
USC currently does not have a ranked doubles squad.
LAST TIME UP
The Trojans were swept by the No. 12 Texas Longhorns at the Mark Tennis Center on Sunday, Mar. 17.
Earlier in the week, the Trojans fell to the No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs in a grueling 4-3 dual at home as Volodomyr Iakubenko and Lodewijk Westrate took down ranked opponents in singles.
SCOUTING Arizona
The Wildcats come into the matchup ranked No. 6 (ITA Rankings, Mar. 19), as they are 14-2 coming into the conference play portion of the season. Arizona has four ranked individuals: #14 Colton Smith, #26 Jay Friend, #80 Gustaf Strom, and #97 Herman Hoeyeraal. The Wildcats have two ranked doubles squads with Colton Smith and Jay Friend at #24 and Colton Smith and Herman Hoeyeraal at #52.
SCOUTING Arizona State
The Sun Devils come into the matchup ranked No. 20 (ITA Rankings, Mar. 19), as they are 12-6 as they enter the conference play road trip. Arizona State has two ranked individuals: #3 Murphy Cassone and #94 Bor Artnak. The Sun Devils have one ranked doubles squad in Bor Artnak and Max McKennon at #62.
