OJAI, Calif. – USC men’s tennis wraps up its season after it falls to No. 2-seeded Arizona in the Pac-12 tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, Apr. 25 at Libbey Park.
It was a close battle all the way throughout, but once again the doubles point plagued the Trojans, as they went down initially 1-0. The Wildcats won court No. 2 6-3, and then USC forced court No. 1 into extra games, as Arizona won that match 7-5.
On the singles side, sophomore Oscar Weightman struck first and had the largest upset of his young career, as he bested #34 Jay Friend in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The other Trojan to pick up a win in the matchup was freshman Volodymyr Iakubenko. Iakubenko won in straight sets as well as he bested his opponent on court No. 4 6-4, 7-6 (5).
The Trojans ended their season in Ojai, as they finish 7-16 overall and 2-5 in Pac-12 play.
