Up Next: Utes Head to ITA Kickoff Weekend


AUSTIN, Texas – The Utah men’s tennis team will head to the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by the University of Texas in Austin beginning Friday, Jan. 26 and concluding Sunday, Jan 28. After a successful start to the spring slate at home, the Utes will face Oklahoma State and the winner of the UTSA/Texas match this weekend.

HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
Utah Head Coach Roeland Brateanu, reigning Pac-12 Coach of the Year, leads the Utes for his tenth season this spring. Under Brateanu’s guidance, the Utah men claimed the Pac-12 Champions title as well as the ITA Mountain Region Champions title last spring.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Utah claimed the first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over in-state rival Weber State. The team secured the doubles point with wins from courts two and three. The Utes dominated singles play as courts Geronimo Espin Busleiman, Bruno Krenn, Jayson Blando, and Gianluca Citadini claimed victories on courts one, two, three, and five, respectively.
 
THE UTES
The Utah roster is comprised of seven returning players. Espin Busleiman returns to compete for the Utes at the No. 1 spot after an impressive 2023 spring season. Berk Bugarikj, another returnee, starts his second season with the Utes after finishing with an ITA No. 1 ranking in doubles for the Mountain Region last season. Krenn also returns for the Utes, claiming his first victory at the No. 2 spot in the season opener.

Twins Jayson and Michael Blando return for their third season with the squad. Geremia Rossi also makes a comeback to the team for the third time this spring season, starting off with a successful doubles match at the No. 3 spot with doubles partner Dylan Applegate. This is Applegate’s second season with the Utes.

Citadini is the single newcomer for the Utah team. The Argentinian national reached as high as No. 139 on the ITF Junior World Rankings and is a Grade 1 National Tournament Champion in Argentina. Citadini claimed…
