Two UO Doubles Duos Advance to Round of 16

STANFORD, Calif. – Oregon’s doubles teams of Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral along with Candela Aparisi and Karin Young each picked up victories Saturday and advanced to the round of 16 on the second day of the ITA Northwest Regionals at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
 
The nation’s 56^th-ranked duo of Luescher and Martinez Moral defeated Indiya McLeod and Alexis Sam of Pacific, 8-3, moving on to face Fresno State’s Misaki Kobayashi and Carolina Piferi for a spot in the quarterfinals. The pair improved to 3-0 when partnered together this fall.
 
Aparisi and Young earned a win for the second straight day to clinch their spot in Sunday’s round of 16, taking down the country’s No. 33 doubles pair in Sally Pethybridge and Iva Zelic from Portland, 8-5. Aparaisi and Young will meet fellow Pac-12 tandem in Washington’s Dariya Detkovskaya and Erika Matsuda.
 
Both Aparisi and Luescher also competed in the singles round of 32 on Saturday, with Luescher advancing to the next round after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over San Jose State’s Duru Durgu. Luescher then faced 54^th-ranked Alexis Blokhina of Stanford, falling 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16. The loss marked Luescher’s fist of the fall season (5-1) while the reached the round of 16 at the annual event for the first time in her career.
 
Aparisi suffered a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Stanford’s Valencia XU, the nation’s No. 118 ranked player.
