RALEIGH, N.C. – A trio of members from the Tennessee women’s tennis team took their talents to the 2023 Fall Ranked Spotlight, hosted by NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Over the weekend, graduate student Alana Wolfberg, senior Elza Tomase and sophomore Leyla Britez Risso competed in their respective singles draws.
The Lady Vols got off to a slow start on Friday, dropping four out of five matches. Wolfberg was the lone member to secure a win. She beat Miami’s Isabella Pfenning in a back-and-forth three set match.
On Saturday, Tomase, Wolfberg and Britez Risso all picked up wins over their opponents. Tomase collected her first win over Ariana Areseneault from Auburn. Wolfberg followed by adding her second victory on the weekend against Mahak Jain from Georgia Tech. Britez Risso gained her win of the weekend after defeating Rachel Hanford from Arizona State.
Play concluded on Sunday, with all three Lady Vols competing for championship titles. In the singles southeast championship, Tomase fell to Emma Jackson from Duke. Wolfberg came up short in the singles southwest championship to Ayana Akli from South Carolina. Lastly, Britez Risso dropped the second draw singles southeast championship to Antonia Balzert hailing from Miami.

The team is set to travel to Waco, Texas, to play in the H-E-B Invitational Sept. 29 through Oct. 1.
