Chris Li, a native of Lima, Peru, has signed an institutional aid agreement with the Tennessee men’s tennis team and will join the Vols for the 2023 fall season.
Li (pronounced: Lee), Tennessee’s fifth top-75 ITF newcomer and a transfer from North Carolina, holds a career-high ITA singles ranking of No. 107 (Feb. 8, 2023) and rose to as high as No. 72 in the ITF junior singles rankings.
With a UTR of 12.77, Li was 15-12 in singles matches during two seasons with the Tar Heels, playing primarily at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 in the singles lineup.
“We are looking forward to getting Chris here this summer,” Tennessee associate head coach James McKie said. “We saw him a bunch last fall and are excited about his potential. We are eager to watch him develop on a talented roster amongst a great group of guys.”
Li won eight ITF junior titles in singles and doubles combined and holds wins over Karl Poling (North Carolina), Nathan Han (Oklahoma), Casey Hoole (South Carolina), Sebastian Dominko (Notre Dame) and Ignacio Buse (Georgia).
Li is the Vols’ sixth newcomer for the 2023-24 season, joining five talented freshman in Tennessee’s signing class—James Newton, Filip Pieczonka, Nicolas Kobelt, Olaf Pieczkowski and Filip Apltauer.
