Top-25 Matchup with No. 3 Michigan Up Next for No. 19 Gators


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It will be a quick turnaround for Florida women’s tennis, as the No. 18 Gators welcome No. 3 Michigan on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET for a battle between top-25 squads.
 
THE SERIES VS. MICHIGAN

Florida and Michigan are meeting for the seventh time in program history on Wednesday with the Gators holding a 5-1 all-time lead in the series. This will be Michigan’s second time making the trip to Gainesville, as the Orange & Blue hold a 1-0 lead at home.
 
TOP-5 OPPORTUNITY
The Gators will be looking for their first win over a top-five opponent since April 7, 2018, when they took down No. 5 South Carolina, 4-2, in Columbia. They could also pick-up their first victory over a top-three opponent since Mar. 14, 2017, when they defeated No. 2 Ohio State, 4-1.
 
DUB AT ONE
Junior Sara Dahlstrom made her debut at the top singles slot against No. 23 Vanderbilt on Friday evening. No. 119 Sara Dahlstrom was put into a three-set thriller against No. 48 Celia-Belle Mohr. The junior struggled in the first frame, falling to Mohr, 6-2, before opening the second set with a 3-0 advantage after making some adjustments. The Commodore made things interesting, responding to make it 5-3 late, but it wouldn’t be enough before Dahlstrom evened the match, 6-3. In the 10-point tiebreak that replaced a full third set, the Gator quickly faced a 3-0 deficit, but responded with the next eight points during her march to a 10-4 win.
 
ITA RANKINGS
In the latest ITA Rankings, the Gators continue to hold steady in the top-20 and find themselves ranked No. 19 as a team. Individually, Sara Dahlstrom leads the way with a ranking of No. 42, while Carly Briggs and Anastasia Sysoeva both remain in the rankings as well, sitting at 45th and 122nd, respectively. The doubles tandem of Briggs and Rachel Gailis also appear in this week’s rankings, remaining the No. 60 doubles squad.
 
SEC STRONG
The SEC is one of the top conferences in collegiate tennis, with 11 teams finding themselves in the latest top-75 rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Among the Power Five conferences, the SEC’s 11 ranked-teams are the second most, while the ACC leads the way with 13. The Big Ten and Big 12 each have nine teams ranked, while the Pac 12 boasts eight ranked squads.
