CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (2-0) began its season on the right track on Saturday, as the Tigers swept its doubleheader against College of Charleston and UNCG without dropping a point, 7-0, 7-0. The wins marked the first of Head Coach Amy Sargeant’s tenure in her new role.
“The first match of the season is always challenging,” began Sargeant. “But the girls stepped up and stuck to the objective for the day. I thought they all competed very well, played to their strengths and had fun while doing it.”
Sophia Hatton was dominant in both of her singles matches on Saturday, defeating her College of Charleston opponent 6-0, 6-0 before taking care of her UNCG opponent 6-1, 6-0.
Eleni Louka won each of her singles matches from Court 1, and Mayorova did the same on line 2. Alexandra Anttila showed character in her win on Court 5 against UNCG by coming back from down 5-1 to win the first set and ultimately earn the victory, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
The Tigers won all 18 matches played, as both doubles points were swept by Clemson.
Clemson will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 22 at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in a doubleheader against Presbyterian College and Wofford. First serve against Presbyterian is set for 11 a.m. with the backend of the doubleheader slated to begin at 3 p.m.
