NASHVILLE– The Clemson Tigers had an outstanding performance at Vanderbilt University’s June Stewart Invitational on Oct 25-27. All four Tigers, Romana Cisovska, Candela Yecora, Gia Parravicini, and Anabelle Davis, went 12-0 in singles play during the Hidden Duel tournament.
“What a weekend our four players put together this weekend,” Head Coach Boomer Saia said. “I was really proud of our toughness in important moments, our competitiveness, and our responsive energy throughout the entire weekend. We are a new group, but we are learning and taking strides, which will ultimately help us come springtime. I am excited for what is ahead for this program.”
Friday Recap:
The Tigers kicked off their singles streak by defeating all four Vanderbilt athletes. Parravicini defeated Amy Stevens 6-3, 3-6, and clinched in the third set, 10-5. Cisovska defeated Trinetra Vijayakumar, in three sets, winning 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. Yecora followed closely by claiming the victory over Sophia Webster, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7. Davis finished off the day beating Sonya Macavei, after being down after the first set 3-6. She finished out the match going 7-5 and 10-3.
In doubles play, Yecora and Cisovska defeated Lipsomb’s Mariia Dolzhenko and Sofiia Zhylchuk, 6-1.
Saturday Recap:
The second day of competition saw the Tigers continue their streak in singles. Parravicini took down Lipscomb’s Zhylchuk in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The three other singles wins came as the Tigers were matched up against Kentucky. Yecora easily defeated Elizabeth Eades, 6-1, 6-4. Cisvoska similarly took down Ellie Meyers, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out the day, Davis defeated Asuncion Jadue 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, Yecora and Cisovska easily took down Tennessee State University’s Francisca Gomez-Weiss and Warona Mdlulwa, 6-2.
Sunday Recap:
The last day of competition brought the Tigers to 12 wins in singles. Three out of the four Tigers were matched up against Perdue, with one Tiger taking on a Tennessee State University athlete. Parravicini advanced to 3-0 on the weekend after taking down TSU’s Mdlulwa, 6-0, 6-1. Cisovska claimed the victory over Tara Katarina Milic in a 7-6(3), 6-3 match. Yecora additionally defeated Kathryn Wilson in a 6-2, 7-5 victory. Rounding out the day, Davis claimed the last singles victory, winning against Ashlie Wilson, 6-2, 7-5.
