After slipping and falling and being forced to retire from his first-round match with Rinky Hijikata at Queen’s Club, Frances Tiafoe remains hopeful of playing at Wimbledon.

The 28-year-old World No.28 has a Grade 1 sprain of his right MCL. He fell in the second game of the third set at his baseline in Monday’s contest, and was writhing in pain for a lengthy time. Tiafoe eventually limped off the court and was favoring his right hip area.
After a medical timeout he returned to the court, played one more point and promptly retired from the match.

“I have Grade 1 MCL sprain,” Tiafoe posted on Instagram, then hopefully added: Going to spend the next few weeks rehabbing to get ready for Wimbledon.”
It has been a difficult season for the former World No.10. He has won 13 and lost 14 and sagged in the rankings from 16 to 29.
Since reaching the Houston final in April, Tiafoe has lost 8 of 11 matches.
