Three Lady Vols Tabbed to 2024 All-SEC Team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the third consecutive year, Tennessee women’s tennis has earned three All-SEC Team selections, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Sofia Cabezas was named First Team All-SEC while junior Elza Tomase and sophomore Catherine Aulia were tabbed to the Second Team All-SEC squad.

“Every year our program continues to improve and it is because players on our team continue to strive for excellence,” head coach Alison Ojeda said. “I love that all three of these student-athletes have a unique story as to how they got to the University of Tennessee and the work that they’ve done to be recognized on our All-SEC team.”

Cabezas, a first-team honoree, has firmly cemented herself as one of the best players in the country, while being a staple for the Lady Volunteers during her first year on Rocky Top. The Valencia, Venezuela, native has notched 10 wins while competing at UT’s No. 1 singles spot and collected 12 wins atop the doubles lineup. The senior has been consistently ranked in both the ITA singles and doubles polls. She is currently ranked at No. 13 in singles and No. 9 in doubles with her partner, Tomase. Both rankings stand as a career-best for Cabezas.

Throughout this season, Cabezas has defeated six ranked singles opponents and downed four ranked doubles foes. Her singles success includes victories over three top-10 opponents.

Tomase has been a constant on the All-SEC teams, making it on the charts in each of the last three seasons. She is the 10th player in program history to be recognized three times on the All-SEC Teams, having earned first-team honors in 2023 and second-team acclaim in 2022.

The Liepaja, Latvia, native has faced big-time talent all season, taking down three ranked opponents in singles and four, alongside Cabezas, in doubles. She has surpassed 70 career singles wins and was ranked three times in the ITA singles polls this season, and has been selected in the doubles poll since Feb. 7, with her current doubles ranking slated at No. 9.

Aulia, also a second-team designee, has recorded 16 victories in singles and 14 doubles wins in dual action. The Roseberry, Australia, native leads the team in singles wins and is tied with the most doubles wins on the squad with doubles partner, Lauren Anzalotta. In her second year, Aulia has tallied three ranked singles wins, noting a top-25 triumph against No. 24 Bridget Stammel, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.
