SEATTLE – Fall tournament play is at hand for the Husky men’s tennis team, with a trio of Dawgs on their way to Tulsa, Oklahoma and the ITA All-American Championships. The tournament is the first major individual championship of the 2024-25 calendar. Soham Purohit and Cesar Bouchelaghem get underway on Saturday, with Dzianis Zharyn joining the action on Monday.
The tournament serves as the first qualifier for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which have broken from tradition and moved to November rather than taking place following the NCAA Team Championship in the spring. Ten singles players and four doubles teams will qualify for NCAAs from ITA All-Americans.
The tournament begins tomorrow, Sept. 21, and runs all the way until Sept. 29. The Championships follows its traditional three-tier set-up, with pre-qualifying rounds, followed by qualifying rounds, and then the main draw.
Cesar Bouchelaghem is the top overall seed in the pre-qualifying singles draw. Purohit is also in pre-qualifying, while Zharyn made the cut into qualifying. Players in pre-qualifying will need three wins to move into the qualifying singles draw. Zharyn and Bouchelaghem will also compete down the road in the doubles draw.
Bouchelaghem, ranked No. 108 nationally in singles, opens up at 6:00 a.m. Pacific time on Saturday against Georgia Samaha of New Mexico. Purohit starts at the same time against Gabrielius Guzauskas of Illinois.
