"This Might Be My Last Time Playing Here"

A devastated Andy Murray took the court on Thursday to announce that… he wouldn’t be taking the court. The three-time National Bank Open champion picked up an abdominal issue earlier this week and had to pull out of the draw, sending Italy’s Jannik Sinner through to the quarterfinals.

“I’ve rarely been in this situation in my career and I feel I feel terrible,” Murray said, adding: “This might be my last time playing here as well. So to finish like this feels feels rubbish.”

Murray dealt with a similar issue last year and said that he needed about 10 to 12 days to feel right again. The US Open begins in 18 days, on Monday August 28.

At this point it is not known if Murray will attempt to play next week in Cincinnati.

“I had a very similar issue last year in the tournament in Stuttgart before Wimbledon which forced me to miss the Queen’s club tournament,” Murray said. “And I was able to play Wimbledon. It took me about 10 to 12 days before I was feeling good. This is not as bad as that but obviously the danger if you compete and play on it is you make it worse. So yeah, I need to see how it develops over the coming days. And hopefully feel better in a few days.”
