COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri tennis was swept by No. 16 Florida 7-0 in Southeastern Conference on Friday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Florida.
With the win, the Gators (12-4, 5-2 SEC) took their fourth-straight match and moved to 10-0 in the all-time series vs. Mizzou. The Tigers fell to 10-11, 1-8 in SEC play.
Florida picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3. The No. 2 doubles match between Mizzou’s Andrea Artimedi and Emelie Schwarte and UF’s 60th-ranked pairing of Carly Briggs and Rachel Gailis was abandoned with the Tigers duo leading 5-3 following the clinch.
Gabriela Martinez picked up a 6-4 first-set win against Gailis, but dropped the second frame 6-4 and lost a close third-set tiebreaker by an 11-9 marging.
Artimedi also won her first set, 6-2. Her foe, UF’s Bente Spee grabbed the second set, 6-3, and won the third-set tiebreaker 10-1.
Mizzou returns to the courts on Sunday, facing No. 25 South Carolina at 10 a.m. CT at the Carolina Tennis Complex.
