Tennis Terps End Of The Year ITA Rankings

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The University of Maryland women’s tennis team received its end of the year rankings this week. After another successful season, the Terps saw ranking improvements across the board.
 

Team National ranking


The women’s tennis team ranked No. 52 in the 2023 ITA national end of the year rankings following a 17-9 overall season record.

 

Team regional ranking

The Terps moved to the No. 3 spot in the ITA Atlantic Region team rankings, an improvement upon last year’s No. 4 ranking. The ranking is presented after back-to-back winning seasons for the Terps with 17 wins, which ties the second-most season wins in program history. After 17 wins in 2023 and 18 wins in 2022, the Terps set a school record for most wins in a two-year span with 35.

Singles regional ranking

Selma Cadar continues to be a staple on the tennis roster year after year. Starting the season at court 1, she held a 6-3 singles record through the match against Memphis. Shortly after, injury shortened the senior’s season. Upon returning, Cadar was a reliable player on court 3, where she maintained a 3-2 record. Selma Cadar ranked No. 20 in the ITA Atlantic Regional singles rankings at the conclusion of her senior year. 

Selma Cadar has another year of eligibility and will return to Maryland in 2024.

Doubles regional ranking

The doubles pairing of Selma Cadar and Mary Brumfield is no stranger to the spotlight. In the fall of 2022, the pair finished as finalists in the ITA Atlantic Fall Regionals, where they earned an invitation to the ITA National Fall Championships. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals in the national tournament but ultimately fell to the Virginia pairing of No. 31 nationally ranked Chervinsky/Subhash. 

In the 2023 regular season, the pair played an integral role at the top of the doubles lineup for the Maryland team. The pair received a preseason ITA national ranking of No. 18. At the conclusion of the 2023 season, Selma Cadar and Mary Brumfield received the ITA Atlantic Regional doubles ranking of No. 5.
