COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri tennis takes one in the doubleheader action on Friday, March 1, falling to the University of Georgia 4-0 and sweeping Lindenwood University 4-0. With the spit, the Tigers move their record to 3-9 on the young season and 0-1 in conference action.
Beginning the day with doubles against Georgia at the Country Club of Missouri, the No. 3 pair of graduate student Emelie Schwarte and sophomore Andrea Artimedi battled in a hard-fought match but came up just short. In the No. 2 spot, seniors Romary Cardenas Rifka and Gabriela Martinez held the lead against the No. 23 ranked duo, 4-1, but could not ultimately claim the win.
Entering singles play down, 1-0, Senior Mae Canete competed in a close match against the No. 48 ranked singles athlete but went unfinished with Canete leading, 7-5, 1-0.
Continuing doubleheader play against Lindenwood, the Tigers dominated in doubles action with the No. 1 duo of M. Canete and junior Inah Canete forcing the Lions into a shutout match, 6-0. The No. 2 pair of Cardenas Rifka and Martinez also ran away with the win against Lindenwood, 6-1.
The Tigers grabbed the doubles point and continued the momentum into singles play with three wins. M. Canete and I. Canete both secured the victory in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-1, respectively. Closing out the day, Artimedi collected the final point for the Tigers to put them on top 4-0 against the Lions.
