Syracuse tennis (8-0, 2-0) collected its eighth straight victory with a 4-3 win against Florida State (5-4, 0-1)., marking the best start to a season since 2001.
The Orange split the first two doubles flights, as Zeynep Erman/Shiori Ito claimed a 6-4 victory against Ellie Schoppe/Kianah Motosono (FSU) and Ines Fonte/Viktoriya Kanapatskaya lost to Alice Amendola/Millie Bissett (FSU), 6-3. It all came down to Miyuka Kimoto/Polina Kozyreva, who defeated FSU’s Vic Allen/Olympe Lancelot with an electrifying 7-6 win to award the doubles point to Syracuse.
Despite an early singles win (6-3, 6-2) in straight sets from Kozyreva, FSU drew even after Vic Allen (FSU) defeated Kimoto 6-2,6-1, and Anna Arkadianou (FSU) triumphed against Erman, 6-3, 6-2. The last three matches were highly contentious, with Bissett (FSU) edging Fonte 5-7, 6-2 and 6-3. The Orange stormed back thanks to a Kanapatskaya win (2-6, 7-6, 6-2) and Ito sealed the victory by defeating Lancelot (FSU) 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Syracuse returns to Drumlins Tennis Club on Sunday, Feb. 26 as it takes on #23 Miami at 11:00 a.m. and celebrates Otto’s Kids Club members.
