Tennis Programs Receive First Look at Renovated Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center

DURHAM – Duke men’s and women’s tennis received their first look at the renovated and expanded Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center on Tuesday evening.

“What an incredible night for Duke tennis,” head women’s coach Jamie Ashworth said. “Not just our team, but the men’s team as well. It has been a long time coming. To see their reactions and to see the smiles on their faces to get back into their locker room and see this incredible space was worth the wait. There are so many people to thank. The incredible donors we’ve had with our program. Obviously, Nina (King) and her staff, Bob Weiseman and his staff, Zach (White) and the fundraising staff and the support of Leslie Barnes – everybody just all came together for this night. We couldn’t be happier. This was a vision we had a long time ago and to see it actually come to fruition, is just incredible”.

Over the past year and a half, the tennis facility underwent significant renovations to its locker rooms, coaches’ offices, training room and conference room. In addition, a team lounge and kitchen were added during the reconstruction.

“It’s absolutely amazing,” head men’s coach Ramsey Smith added. “It blows everything out of the water that we were hoping for. Duke did it the right way. We want to thank the unbelievable supporters of our program for making this happen. I am just so happy for our student-athletes, our alumni, our staff, and everyone involved with Duke tennis.”
