COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri tennis prepares to host a weekend filled with back-to-back SEC opponents, opening with No. 16 South Carolina on Friday, March 22 at 1 p.m. CT and closing with No. 33 Florida on Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m. CT. The weekend’s competition is set to take place at the Country Club of Missouri or Green Tennis Center, depending on the weather conditions.
The Tigers walk into the weekend with a 4-13 record on the season and are still searching for their first SEC victory for 2024. Mizzou most recently wrapped up a contest against No. 48 Arkansas but could not pull away with the win, falling 4-0 to the Razorbacks. Seniors and doubles duo Romary Cardenas Rifka and Gabriela Martinez stole a 6-4 win, though the Tigers could not secure the doubles point in the end. Battling on the No. 5 court, sophomore Andrea Artimedi contested in a close two-set match but could not jump in front of Arkansas, 7-5, 6-4.
South Carolina currently sits at an 11-4 record for the season and a split 3-3 conference record heading into Friday’s action. The Tigers first faced off against the Gamecocks on January 26, 2013, eventually dropping 4-3 at the end of the close match. Most recently, Mizzou fell 4-0 to South Carolina on April 2nd, 2023, pushing the series record to 11-0 with the Gamecocks leading.
Previewing Sunday’s action, Florida currently holds an 8-7 record and sits at a 4-2 record against SEC opponents. The programs began their series on March 1, 2013, when the Tigers fell 6-1 to the Gators. With Florida up 10-0 in the series record, Mizzou most recently competed against Florida on March 31, 2023, and dropped 7-0 to the Gators.
