Tennis Earns Doubles Point in Loss at Iowa


IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Rutgers women’s tennis (10-9, 1-7 B1G) earned the doubles point before falling at No. 73 Iowa (9-9, 4-3 B1G), 5-2, on Saturday at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreational Complex.
 
Doubles
 
Rutgers recorded wins on the first and second doubles courts to secure an early lead in the dual.
 
Tara Chilton and Minchae Kim earned their first win as a duo, defeating the Hawkeye’s No. 2 pair, 6-4.
 
Yana Gurevich and Mai Nguyen then clinched the point for the Scarlet Knights, battling to a 7-5 victory on court No. 1.
 
Singles
 
Kim picked up the first singles victory of the afternoon, beating Nikita Vishwase in straight sets on court No. 6.
 
The Hawkeyes did not take long to respond, picking up a win on the second court shortly after the conclusion of court No. 6. Iowa then equalized the match at two with a win on the fourth court.
 
Iowa took a 3-2 lead in the dual after a tough, three-set battle on court one. The Hawkeyes then clinched the 5-2 dual victory with additional wins on courts No. 5 and 3.
