Tennis Drops 4-0 Decision To Illinois

ST. LOUIS – University of Missouri tennis dropped a 4-0 Braggin’ Rights matchup to Illinois on Friday at Vetta Sunset in. St. Louis, Missouri.

The Tigers (3-2) lost the doubles point and then rallied in singles, but not before going down a set in each of the first five singles matches. No. 6 singles was late to start due to court availability.

Mae Canete was on the wrong end of a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker in the first set at No. 1 singles, but battled back to win the second set 7-5.

Laura Masic had a similar outing at No. 2 singles, falling in the first set 6-4 and winning the second 7-5

Both matches, along with Andrea Artimedia at No. 6 singles, were unfinished. 

Emilie Schwarte (6-2, 6-4), Gabriela Martinez (6-2, 6-4) and Inah Canete (6-4, 6-4) all had solid moments, but eventually fell to their Illini foe at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

UP NEXT

Mizzou returns to action next weekend, facing South Dakota in a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 17 in Kansas City. Action gets underway at 9 a.m. CT.
