Tennis Concludes Hall of Fame Invitational with Two Wins on Day Three


NEWPORT, R.I. — The Rutgers women’s tennis team finished its Hall of Fame Invitational run on Sunday, earning two total wins, one from each of its doubles teams.
 
To close out the tournament, the Rutgers’ doubles pairs took on Paige Gilbert and Ashley Kennedy of Georgetown and Stella Wisemann and Isabella Giraldo of George Washington for the second-straight round.
 
This time the matchups were reversed, with Minchae Kim and Chloe Brown taking on Georgetown, and Daira Cardenas and Arina Valitova facing GW.
 
Both duos of Scarlet Knights earned comeback victories after each dropping their first set. Kim and Brown battled to a 1-6, 6-2, 11-9 win over the Hoyas in the schools’ fourth matchup of the tournament.
 
Cardenas and Valitova secured a 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 victory over the Colonials to close out the weekend.
 
Rutgers ended the three-day event with an overall record of 5-3 through eight total matches. Kim and Brown recorded three wins, while Cardenas and Valitova earned two.

The Scarlet Knights will now shift their focus to next weekend as RU is set to travel to New Haven, Conn. for the Yale Invitational, taking place from September 22-24.
