Tennis Closes Regular Season With 6-1 Win Over Saint Louis

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri tennis ended its regular season victorious over in-state foes Saint Louis, Saturday in non conference action at the Country Club of Missouri.

The defeat was SLU’s first on the road this season, previously beating Southern Indiana, Missouri State, Dayton and Bradley in its only other true road trips.

The Tigers (11-15) snapped an eight-match losing streak with the win. Mizzou started off strong with the doubles point, defeating the Billikens (16-6) in the first two pairings, 6-2 and 6-3, respectively. 

 


To start singles, No. 104 Mae Canete took care of business by taking the first set, 6-3, and winning the second set 6-2, earning her 21st and final singles victory of the regular season.

Following right behind Canete was Andrea Artimedi, who also won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3, respectively. Romary Cardenas Rifka blitzed her first set 6-0 en route to a third straight-set triumph for Mizzou.

Singles matches two and three were decided by a third set, each resulting in Tiger victories. Emelie Schwarte used a 7-4 tiebreak to squeak by her opponent, earning her second victory by tiebreak this season.

The Billikens earned their lone point via a straight-set victory in singles match six.

UP NEXT

Mizzou prepares for postseason competition as it heads to Fayetteville, Ark. for the SEC Tournament. Play is set to begin on Wednesday, April 19, with the championship match slated for Sunday, April 23.
