Tennis Claims Doubles Point in Loss to Yale

Seton Hall

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — The Rutgers women’s tennis team (3-2, 0-0 B1G) claimed the doubles point before falling to Yale (4-0), 6-1, on Saturday evening at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.

“We had a great comeback win at No. 1 doubles to secure the point,” said head coach Hilary Ritchie. “All the courts started off really close in singles, but we lost our lead in a couple of matches that were key. Yale did a good job competing in the big points. This match was a good learning experience for us.”

The two teams played an intense round of doubles, with the Scarlet Knights using wins on courts No. 1 and 3 to ultimately clinch the point.

Arina Valitova and Naomi Karki picked up their second doubles win as a pair this weekend to get things started, downing Yale’s No. 3 duo, 6-2.

The Bulldogs then leveled the playing field with a 6-4 win on court No. 2.

With all eyes turned to court No. 1, Tara Chilton and Yana Gurevich recorded wins in two-straight games over Yale’s Orly Ogilvy and Mirabelle Brettkelly to earn a 7-5 victory and secure the doubles point for RU.
