Tech starts off hot, bests College of Charleston


BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (1-0, 0-0) bested the College of Charleston, 6-1, in season opener on Monday morning. 

Tech won all three doubles matches, clinching the doubles point on court two, where Matt Harper and Alberto Orso took down Zac Larke and Matias Gaedechens, 6-2. 

Alex Ix started off with a singles victory for the Hokies, besting Evan Pugh, 6-0, 6-0. No. 72 Ryan Fishback also began his 2024 campaign strong with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Zac Larke. 

On court four, Alberto Orso won the clinching match for the dual, 6-1, 6-3, against Matias Gaedechens. 

Maxime St. Hilaire notched his first win as a Hokie on court two, winning 6-3, 6-2. Hugo Maia defeated Eddie Vo on court three, 6-2, 6-4. Matt Harper battled in an effort to make the match 7-0 in favor of Virginia Tech, but fell in a grueling three-set match to Jordyn Larke of Charleston. 

UP NEXT

The Hokies will play host to Charlotte on Jan. 28 at 9:30 a.m. with a match against Bellarmine later that day at 8 p.m.
