THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis ended day one of competition at the ITA Southeast Regionals with two doubles pairings advancing to the second round of play.
In the first round of main draw doubles, Elias Shokry and Marcus McDaniel defeated Florida Gulf Coast’s Eric Oncins and Randy Wilson, 8-6. Tech earned another victory against a doubles pairing from FGCU when Keshav Chopra and Robert Bauer took down Guglielmo Stefanacci and Marcel Sepulveda in a hard fought 8-7 [4] win. Shokry/McDaniel and Chopra/Bauer will continue their regionals run on Friday, with start times and court locations to be announced.
Although the Jackets did not make it out of the first round of the qualifying singles, Tech still has three players who will begin competition in the main draw singles on Friday. Chopra will kick off the day for Tech with a match at 9 a.m. versus Kennesaw State’s Seru Tezuka. McDaniel faces off with Gerard Florida Atlantic’s Escandell Florida and Rohan Sachdev will compete against North Florida’s Matthew Carroll, both matches are set to start at 12 p.m.
